SUMMARY:Annual Lecture and Dinner 2023
DESCRIPTION:Ben Addy – Moxon Architects\nThe IABSE British Group Annual Lecture 2023 will be given by Ben Addy of Moxon Architects. The lecture will be held at the IStructE headquarters. Join us to learn why “no-one should be interested in the design of bridges”. \nThe lecture will be followed by the IABSE British Group Annual Dinner\, which will take place at the Compton in Clerkenwell\, a short walk from the IStructE. \nTickets are available here: \n \nNo one should be interested in the design of bridges\nIn 20 years of practice\, architect Ben Addy has consistently returned to Cedric Price’s 1972 provocation: “No one should be interested in the design of bridges – they should be concerned with how to get to the other side.” \nToday\, in the context of climate change and the ecological crisis\, Ben Addy explains why the design of bridges is integral to the bigger picture. \nPresenting his working methodology through a wide range of Moxon Architects’ projects – from bridges and infrastructure to buildings and public space – Ben Addy explains how the principle of doing more with less informs all of his architecture and why an engineering sensibility is critical in addressing some of the challenges in today’s world. \nBen Addy\nBen Addy is the founding Director of Moxon Architects. He is an award winning architect with experience across sectors and particular expertise in projects involving the creation of new public infrastructure. Having established Moxon in 2004\, he has cultivated a reputation for technical achievement\, aesthetic versatility and an inquisitive\, collaborative design process.
