SUMMARY:IABSE Annual Lecture 2022
DESCRIPTION:Tina Vejrum – Record Spans from Stonecutters to Canakkale\nThe IABSE British Group Annual Lecture 2022 will be given by Tina Vejrum\, President-elect of IABSE. The lecture will be held at the IStructE headquarters. Join us for an incredible insight into Tina’s work on cutting edge long span bridges. \nThe lecture will be followed by the IABSE British Group annual dinner that will take place on a boat cruise while the Thames River. A three-course meal and drinks will be served. \nTickets are available here: \n \nRecord Spans from Stonecutters to Canakkale\nConnecting people and communities with efficient infrastructure is a fundamental basis for ensuring the future prosperity and development of our societies. Respect for resources and environment\, as well as the assessment of the effects of climate change\, are important considerations in developing sustainable solutions. \nPresenting personal favourite bridges and using examples from her own career as a bridge engineer\, Tina’s talk will feature record bridges like Stonecutters in Hong Kong and the new world record\, the 2023m main span 1915 Çanakkale Bridge in Turkey which opened for traffic in March 2022. \nOn the Ferry Free E39 project in Norway\, the conditions are so challenging that technology from many different areas needs to be combined in innovative ways. One of the solutions to overcome constructing foundations on more than 500m of water depth is to adopt floating structures to support the roadway. \nDuring the presentation Tina will reflect on synergies between a career as a bridge engineer and being involved in the activities in IABSE. \nDr. Tina Vejrum\nDr Tina Vejrum is Vice President in COWI responsible for major international bridge projects. Starting her career as a structural engineer on the Great Belt Fixed Link in Denmark\, she has been involved in major bridge projects all over the world. A highlight in Tina’s career as a bridge engineer is the record span Stonecutters Bridge in Hong Kong – a project she worked on for 10 years from the design competition through detailed design and concluding with three years on site during construction. Today she is heading COWI’s international team of bridge designers working on some of the largest and most complex bridges in the world. \nIn addition\, Tina is active in a number of professional associations. Notably the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) with over 2\,800 members in more than 100 countries where she currently the President-Elect.
