SUMMARY:Making Bridges Last Longer - Henderson Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:This panel discussion pulls together some participants from the recent IABSE Henderson Colloquium which discussed the topic of “Making bridges last longer”. \nFifty years on from the UK’s motorway boom\, clients now face the growing challenge of ageing bridge stock. Many of these structures are critical links in national and regional networks\, where wholesale replacement would carry enormous financial\, political and environmental costs. At the same time\, embodied carbon in new construction often dwarfs that of repair or refurbishment\, strengthening the case for extending bridge life wherever possible and designing new structures that will last. What was once an aspiration has become a necessity.
