SUMMARY:Nethercot Prize 2020
DESCRIPTION:!!!Deadline Extended to 23rd October!!! \nEarly career architects\, engineers and designers (expected to be under 35 and based in the UK) are invited to submit a single author paper for judging for the Nethercot Prize. This is named after Professor David Nethercot\, President of IABSE 2013-2016\, and is for a paper by a young professional. Shortlisted authors will be invited to the IABSE Milne medal dinner normally held in November each year. The winner of the paper competition will be awarded with a contribution of £400 towards participation and travel to an upcoming IABSE international conference (reimbursed after the attendance of the conference). In light of the current status of in person conferences and events\, this will be available for future events in 2021 or 2022. \nWhat makes your project interesting and special? Papers should outline a project that you are or have been working on\, define what are the key drivers for the project\, explain the key architectural or structural engineering interventions that have been made\, and take a critical view of the overall success of the project. A successful paper will engage the reader and provide a fascinating insight into the process of designing a new or adapting an old structure. A key skill is the ability to tell a story about your project\, and appreciate and reflect on what went well as well as where things might have been improved. \nPapers should be limited to 1300 words. Images and figures may be incorporated but the submission must cover no more than five pages (limitation of 5 A4 sides) at point size 11. \n Judging Criteria:\nEngagement of the reader\nCommunication of technical content and overall written style\nInsight and understanding of the wider project\nUnderstanding and communication of the impact of our work on the wider community\nCritical reflection on the design process \n Authors are required to confirm with the relevant people (project director or as appropriate) that the subject matter is appropriate for public dissemination. \n Submission Email: \nSubmit your paper by email here.  \n Programme\n23rd October 2020          Entry deadline 10th to 31st October         Judging\n1st November                    Shortlist announced and invitations issued to the Milne Medal Dinner\n10th November                 Awards announced at Milne Medal lecture\nPlease note that success in this competition will not lead directly to your paper being accepted for presentation at an IABSE Symposium.
