No one should be interested in the design of bridges

In 20 years of practice, architect Ben Addy has consistently returned to Cedric Price’s 1972 provocation: “No one should be interested in the design of bridges – they should be concerned with how to get to the other side.”

Today, in the context of climate change and the ecological crisis, Ben Addy explains why the design of bridges is integral to the bigger picture.

Presenting his working methodology through a wide range of Moxon Architects’ projects – from bridges and infrastructure to buildings and public space – Ben Addy explains how the principle of doing more with less informs all of his architecture and why an engineering sensibility is critical in addressing some of the challenges in today’s world.
