Record Spans from Stonecutters to Canakkale

Connecting people and communities with efficient infrastructure is a fundamental basis for ensuring the future prosperity and development of our societies. Respect for resources and environment, as well as the assessment of the effects of climate change, are important considerations in developing sustainable solutions.

Presenting personal favourite bridges and using examples from her own career as a bridge engineer, Tina’s talk will feature record bridges like Stonecutters in Hong Kong and the new world record, the 2023m main span 1915 Çanakkale Bridge in Turkey which opened for traffic in March 2022.

On the Ferry Free E39 project in Norway, the conditions are so challenging that technology from many different areas needs to be combined in innovative ways. One of the solutions to overcome constructing foundations on more than 500m of water depth is to adopt floating structures to support the roadway.

During the presentation Tina will reflect on synergies between a career as a bridge engineer and being involved in the activities in IABSE.
