[one_half]

Thank you all for the submission of questions on the design competition brief. Below are answers.

Question:

“Be able to connect to other modules to create larger structures like field hospital, school etc.” – Do we need to produce a concept design for the field hospital/school etc. or just the housing unit, keeping in mind the possibility of joining them together for a larger unit?

Answer:

The primary scope of the competition is to design a modular housing unit, capable of being deployed in a much wider context. There is no requirement to design a hospital or a school however the designer may find it useful to demonstrate how a single unit can be used in a larger context.

Question:

“House a family” – What facilities would this involve? Just a roof and bed for up to 5 people?

 Answer:

The designer shall decide upon the facilities to be provide within the unit. It is the designer’s responsibility to carefully consider the needs of the occupants within the context presented and address them through their design.

Question:

How should the poster be laid out? Is there a specific template or any rules to follow?

Answer:

The layout of poster and its design it completely up to the designer. The design should complement your design choices and communicate your design choices effectively. Submissions are to consist of a single A2 size board, submitted in pdf format by email to events@iabse.org.uk. Boards should include the team’s identification number clearly located in one corner. No other identifying marks (e.g. entrant names, company/organisation names or logos) should be displayed on the boards.

Question:

Should the refugee shelter be for a specific location?

Answer:

The refugee shelter should be suitable for a range of locations and not one specific location. The design should be suitable for use in an earthquake prone region.

Question:

Is a report or any supporting calculations required to explain the concept and support our design choices?

Answer:

No, the A2 poster is the sole deliverable used to communicate your design so choose wisely what you want to include and how you layout your poster.
