Recently the IABSE British Group held their first ever “Journey to Success” (JtS) event in Leeds as part of their long running JtS series, which post-COVID19 aims to expand beyond London and bring IABSE, current and future, members closer together. Focussing to inspiring and motivating with practical career advice those relatively early in engineering, the event put together a very strong and multi-faceted panel of very established and multi-awarded practitioners to describe their life and career to date. The panel that spanned the widest range of engineering activities and themes, provided their perceptions for success in today’s challenging world, guiding and informing a very interactive audience with an excellent mix of age, gender and experience; the panel particularly tackled matters of chartership, career effective choices and showcased how adversity and luck can help in building success. Chaired by John Collins, and supported by the University of Leeds (Nikolaos Nikitas), the event was generously sponsored by ROD. The outcome was very fruitful discussions and a promise for similar very successful events in the very near future.
